Wisdom Tooth - What happens when it's left untreated

Wisdom Tooth is the set of molars that generally grow during teenage. It's normal to get these teeth, but fortunately, it doesn't grow for a few people. This tooth gives an additional strength to chew our food in the rest of our lives. There won't be any need for the removal of wisdom teeth if it is aligned properly and stays healthy in our mouth. But it's unfortunate that it is often misaligned causing various problems resulting in the removal of the wisdom teeth.

When does the wisdom tooth need to be removed?

Removal of the wisdom tooth should be taken into account only if it causes any damage to its adjacent teeth and gums. As long as it is left untreated, then the wisdom tooth pain becomes complex.

1. When you feel the pain behind your molars you need to definitely consult a dentist nearby, else the pain will increase gradually making it difficult while extraction.

2. Wisdom teeth will break through the layer of the gums making a way for the bacteria to enter into the tissues causing an oral infection.

Check out for a dental clinic in your area if you found out these symptoms and get treated immediately.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Wisdom tooth is removed generally by giving local anaesthesia to numb the surrounding tissues and making the patient unconscious. If your wisdom tooth is already moved away from its place then it is quite easy to remove it. But the extraction of an impacted wisdom tooth is a bit painful journey.
The dentist or oral surgeon will cut the tooth into pieces so that it won't damage any of the bones or the nerves and the sensitive tissues in the region. Wisdom tooth extraction is the best solution to get rid of your wisdom tooth which troubles the nearby teeth and gums.

Whom do you need to consult for a wisdom tooth extraction?

A general dentist can be able to remove your wisdom tooth. But an oral surgeon will be well trained in removing the wisdom tooth using IV sedation. They know how to operate it safely while you can rest comfortably not knowing what's going around. So, it's better to consult an oral surgeon to get treated with your wisdom tooth.

After wisdom tooth extraction

Generally, there won't be any difficulty during the surgery as your tooth and surrounding tissues will be totally numb. Post-extraction, you must really need to take care to free yourself from infection. Here are a few home care tips that can be followed after your wisdom tooth removal.

1. Bleeding lasts for around 2-4 hours since your tooth removal. So it's better to have gauze over the region operated and changing it periodically for 2 hours or whenever the gauze is immersed in blood or saliva.

2. Due to the removal of the tooth, the gums and the surrounding tissues may get swelled. So make use of the ice bags, to recover soon from swelling.

3. Don't rinse your mouth for a day. After that, slowly start to rinse your mouth with salt water. Don't do this vigorously, instead slightly turn your head from one side to another with water in your mouth. This won't increase your pain, continue this for the next 5 to 7 days until your pain vanishes.

4. Strictly follow the liquid diet for the next 5 to 7 days because chewing the food may increase your pain. Intake more liquid food like soup, fresh fruit juices, smoothies, curd, yogurt, healthy nutrition drinks, water, and ice creams.
